They come with stylish double doors that show the large fridge on top and a freezer drawer beneath. These refrigerators stand out because of their unique features, such as through-the-door dispensers and higher-end ice makers. We consulted Ladina Schopf – interior designer, architect, and founder of LS Projects – for her tips on how to select the right home. They considered storage capacity, layout and energy efficiency among other features. GE Profile Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator As its name suggests, the GE Profile series is aimed at those who wish to integrate cutting-edge features in their kitchens. The refrigerator is brimming with features, from an in-the-door Keurig K-cup coffee maker to a smart water dispenser. But these flourishes don't mask mediocre performance, especially in the refrigerator's freezer and an ineffective temperature-controlled drawer. Given that this fridge costs more, I'd expect better. Aside from that blip however, this refrigerator is a fantastic choice. It boasts a spacious freezer compartment, which is uncommon in counter-depth French door fridges, and it holds a fair amount of frozen food when compared to similar models. The fridge is equipped with 17 shelves and compartments. The fridge compartment has 18.5 cubic feet, which is standard for a French-door fridge at this price. It comes with a decent size icemaker in the left door. However, it's not the largest one I've seen. You can alter the shelves in both compartments to create a a custom storage solution. The interior design of the GE PYE22PYNFS is good-looking, too. Its LED lighting is a nice feature and the storage bins feature an additional shelf that folds down to allow you to store items that are tall. The drawers come with temperature controls that allow you to set them to Meat, Beverage, or Deli settings. The drawers are easy to open and close however I found the textured plastic coatings a bit hard on my fingers. The GE PGE29BYTFS Smart Refrigerator comes with the full suite of features you'd expect from a refrigerator at this price that includes Wi-Fi as well as app support via GE's SmartHQ software. The app, which is available for iOS and Android devices, lets you control your fridge from anywhere in the world, and it has a ton of customization options. It will also send notifications when the door is unlocked as well as when the fridge or freezer needs to be defrosted, and when the filter needs to be changed. It is nice if GE PYE22PYNFS could offer Precise Fill which is a feature available in a handful of GE refrigerators that allows users to set the number of cups they would like to pour out. It also has an indicator on the fridge display to display how much water have remaining, but that's not as effective as Precise Fill. Bosch Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator It is designed to look as a seamless element of your kitchen, Bosch's French-door refrigerator is one of a kind. The fridge uses fingerprint-resistant stainless steel, which is a great feature for busy households. It also boasts a veggie compartment that helps keep fruits and vegetables fresher longer, and two compressors for the best food preservation. The Ice maker we tested is one of the most efficient and makes an ice pyramid with only a little water. This refrigerator is the ideal option for a single family or kitchenettes that want a sleek design and top-of-the-line food preservation. This fridge was rated the top in our Refrigerators Test for several reasons. The freezer temperatures remained steady at just a few degrees Fahrenheit, and never moving more than a fraction a degree—this is key to preventing freezer burn. The fridge section of the refrigerator also performed well. It reached the temperature it was set within an hour and remained at that temperature throughout our testing. Bosch is known for its high-end appliances which is why it's no surprise that this counter depth refrigerator is also a smart appliance with the option to connect to your home Wi-Fi network and Bosch's Home Connect platform. This app allows you to control and monitor the refrigerator remotely using your tablet or smartphone. The refrigerator is costly however, it offers excellent features and functions at a reasonable cost. It's important to understand the limitations of your fridge. You might need to be creative with tall items because the fridge has a limited shelf space. Additionally, the shelves are not impervious to sprills and could be damaged or stained by sharp objects. The trays are easily removed from the fridge. However, they should be cleaned regularly to prevent the growth of mold. LG Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator The LG LRFLC2706S is an excellent counter-depth refrigerator that packs plenty of storage into a compact frame. It has a sleek, fingerprint-resistant stainless-steel finish and features thick handles that make them comfortable to grip. Inside, the fridge has an ordinary French-door design with gallon-sized bins for the doors on each door as well as two rows of shelves for spill-capture and a set more spacious drawers. The top shelf on the right side can be folded down to make space for tall items. There's also a full-width drawer for deli items and an internal water dispenser. One of the best things about this refrigerator is that the ice maker is inside the freezer, making it easy to move the ice to the refrigerator to use as needed. The freezer also comes with innovative design features like sliding drawers that allow you to organize your belongings. It also has a huge bin that can accommodate plenty of frozen food items as well as an additional container for storing ice. Another cool feature of this refrigerator is its Smart InstaView panel. It lets you control the temperature of your fridge and lighting using your smartphone. It's an easy way to monitor your fridge and manage it, especially when you're away from home. The Smart InstaView feature is neat but it doesn't improve the efficiency of the fridge. In fact, it took longer to defrost and chill food in this refrigerator as compared to other fridges we tested. This is likely due to its greater capacity. The doors pose a problem with this fridge. The sunken handles allow smaller people to open them from the bottom. However french door fridge and freezer will have a difficult time closing them without slamming them. It would have been more effective to have front-mounted handles. The LG Counter-Depth MAX fridge is an excellent option for those looking to combine the look and feel of a French-door refrigerator with an efficient design. It has a capacity that is above average for counter-depth models, and it cools evenly. It's also a bit less than the best counter-depth refrigerator with an ice maker, which can make it an attractive option. Frigidaire Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator If you're looking for a French door refrigerator that won't break the bank this Frigidaire is a great choice. It has a simple design that's not as striking in appearance as other models however it comes with enough features to make it a good option. Its most significant feature, the adjustable temperature drawer helps to keep food like vegetables and meat fresher for longer. It also comes with a huge ice maker as well as a water dispenser. The “Chill Drawer”, which is located over the two crisper bins, is another nice feature. The drawer allows you to divert some of the refrigerator's cooling power directly to this area, which means you can keep food items that require extra attention. This feature can be adjusted by using an outside slider that is located inside the drawer. You can also set the general cooling settings for the entire fridge. I've found that the generic settings work better than the specific ones. In my tests, I found that the temperatures in the refrigerator were fairly consistent in different parts of the fridge. The temperatures in the middle, top and bottom of the refrigerator did not differ much from 38 degrees. This is a pretty good performance however it doesn't make it into the top ten in our rankings. This fridge has a few other neat features, including a temperature-monitoring display that alerts you to fluctuations and provides a forecast for the day ahead. You can also pair this fridge with a smart thermometer for more precise measurements of the internal temperature of your fridge. The Frigidaire FGHB2866PF's exterior is constructed of stainless steel with a grey body that has a “smudge-proof” finish. It blocks streaks and fingerprints better than other stainless steel finishes I've seen.
